A small reflection from Gods Word, from the book of Isaiah.
Whilst having conversations with non Christian family and friends, I was interested to hear about what Christmas meant for them. The most common things they associated with Christmas were fun, games, family, friends, good food and holidays! Whilst these associations are fun and exciting, one personal association for me is Christmas reminds me of snow! I always wish (and secretly pray!) for a fun filled white snowy Christmas! The idea of white, silky snow falling on the day of Christmas brings out the big kid in me! After all, Christmas is the right time to be excited, isn’t it?
Well, please let me share with you the MOST exciting and most glorious reason to celebrate Christmas, something far more greater than the ones mentioned above.
The greatest reason to celebrate Christmas is to simply celebrate Jesus.
‘Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.’ (Isaiah 7:14)
For Christians, Christmas is a time spent celebrating and rejoicing in Jesus. It is a time of remembrance of the birth of Jesus and what this meant for those He came to save.
Jesus promises me (and you) that if we truly repent of our scarlet like sins, and believe in Him, our sins will be forgiven and we will enter a new relationship with Him as our Lord and Saviour. Our sins will no longer matter or count but instead will become as white as snow….
“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
they shall become like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)
