In our efforts of evangelising a small village near Gatwick Airport we designed a survey called “What is Truth?” The survey consisted of six questions and last week we opened our Bibles in Charlwood to explore and answer this very important question.  Does God speak to us?

There are many people who believe that God does not exist or He cannot be found or He simply has no interest in mankind, but the Bible says that God has a great interest in His creation. He has taken the first steps toward us to reveal His Person.

Let’s have a look at the following verses.

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.” (Hebrews 1:1-4)

1. God spoke in the beginning – In Genesis 1 we see that God spoke and everything was created. The bible tells us that everything was made through Jesus Christ, by Jesus Christ and for Jesus Christ. Everything was made through Him and without Him was not any thing made that was made (John 1:3). The Bible says that heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the work of His hands.

2. God spoke to the fathers in many ways – God spoke to many people in many ways as we read the Bible. God spoke to people through dreams, with a loud or low voice, through burning bush, through visions and various others ways.

3. God spoke by the prophets – God also spoke to His people through the prophets. These prophets were not a special people. They were ordinary men called by a supreme and majestic God. The Old Testament history is full of the writings of the prophets who were inspired by the Holy Spirit to proclaim God’s word.

4. God has spoken to us by His Son, Jesus Christ – In these last days God has spoken to us through His Son – Jesus Christ. Jesus came into the world at the time He was predicted to come. He lived a perfect sinless life which you and I could never live. He died the death which you and I deserved to die. He rose again from the death to show His power over death. He promised that He would conquer death and He did. Because of all of these facts (and truths of the Bible) I have every reason to believe that whatever Jesus said about Himself and about us is nothing but true. Jesus told His disciples that once He is ascended to heaven, He would send a Helper (The Holy Spirit) who will guide His Church and convict the world of sin, judgement and righteousness.

So, does God speak to us?

Yes, He does and if you have not responded to God’s call for repentance and faith in Christ then do it now as it is written if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart.
