I was recently asked if Grace Church Southall was an Asian church. Here are my thoughts on the question.

The simple answer is no, Grace Church Southall is not an Asian church, but a Christian church. It is not an Asian church, but a church full of sinners from every walk of life who have been saved by the grace of God. It is not an Asian church, but a church which invites sinners from every nation, every tribe, every people and every language to come and know the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

It would be a sad day for us to be labelled as an ‘Asian church’ rather than a Christian church. We have too many churches in our nation and even across the world which are ethnically or racially exclusive.

Consider what the Scriptures say for a moment:

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (Revelation 7:9-10)

The verse above makes it plain that in heaven, the LORD God will be worshipped by people from every nation, tribe, people and language. The church is a reflection of what we will be doing in heaven in the presence of God. What a great blessing it is for me to see in Grace Church Southall American, British, Czech Republic, English, Romanian, Indian and Pakistani people worshipping the living God side-by-side.

May it long continue and may it further grow.

For the glory of God’s name in Southall,

Vic Gill
