Sarita became a believer and follower of Jesus Christ three years ago. She is a committed Christian and member of Grace Church Southall and is married to Sonny Simak. Since becoming a Christian, read what the Lord God has been teaching her.

He taught me to love Him

We love, because He first loved us. (1 John 4:19)

One of the first ‘feelings’ I remember having when I first became a Christian three years ago was of love. I had begun to think about Him. I began to marvel at His marvellous and wondrous works. I had begun to love His Word. I had begun to truly love my God…

You shall love the Lord, your God with all your heart and with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. (Deuteronomy 6:5)

My God is a God (the only true God) worthy to be loved, worshipped and praised. When I think back about what God did for me through the cross of Christ, my heart rejoices and is glad. Only He deserves all the glory, praise and worship.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

He taught me to love myself

This may sound selfish, right? Let me explain. Having gone through possibly 20-30 surgical operations in my life, I was not at all confident with my inner or outer self. Having been put on a large dose of steroids and high nutrient diets during my childhood, I was always bullied at school for being ‘strange.’ These ordeals in my life made me upset with ‘being me.’ I really wanted to be someone else. This changed when Jesus came into my life…

I realised now that all things that had occurred in the past were all part of my God’s sovereign plan to bring me to place where I would know Him, and truly love Him.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

God has also taught me a very important lesson in life, that it is not about me, but it is in fact, all about Him. All these years I had spent dwelling about what bad had happened to me. God has taught me to forget about old things and concentrate on the new. God often reminds me on who I am now in Christ.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Thanks be to my God – He has taught me to love this new creation in Him that He has created to be in a right relationship with Him, through repentance of the heart and faith in Christ. To God be the glory!

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him. (Genesis 1:27)

God has taught me to love others

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. (John 13:34)

God has commanded us to love others. However, this is not always so easy, in fact without Gods help, this may even be impossible. Many have mocked, ridiculed and avoided contact after I became a follower of Christ, but I continue to hold on to Gods promise that he will never leave or forsake us.

Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you. (Genesis 28:15)

We must continue to love all, even those who may not love us, in this, He is glorified.

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (Corinthians 13:13)
